Usually the tea dregs are thrown away immediately after being used in one infusion. But did you know that apart from drinking it, it turns out that tea dregs can also be used for facial treatments?

How to Use Tea Dregs for Beauty

There are many hidden properties of tea dregs that are not widely known to the public. Check out the following benefits of tea dregs:

1. Make skin look younger

A study conducted in 2003 by the Medical College of Georgia showed that green tea helps rejuvenate the skin by lightening the skin tone, removing black spots due to pollution that stick to the face, and removing dead skin cells.

How to use it:
  • Prepare two used green tea bags
  • Take the tea dregs that are in the tea bag
  • Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey
  • Lemon juice mixture
  • Apply evenly on the face and wait for 5 to 10 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Use this mask once or twice a week

2. Remove eye bags

The antioxidants and tannins in tea can help treat eye bags. In addition, tea dregs can shrink the fine blood vessels under the eyes that cause eye swelling due to eye sockets. The content of vitamin K in green tea also helps disguise dark circles under the eyes.

How to use it:
  • Place 2 green tea bags in the refrigerator for 30 minutes
  • Once cool, place the cold tea bag on your closed eyelids
  • Let stand for 15 minutes
  • Do this twice a day until you are satisfied with the results

3. Prevent premature aging

Green tea contains anti-aging properties and antioxidants that can help prevent signs of skin aging such as sagging skin, sun damage, dark spots, age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. In addition, the polyphenols in green tea help neutralize free radicals that cause significant damage to the skin and accelerate the aging process.

How to use it:
  • Mix 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of green tea grounds, and a pinch of turmeric powder in a container
  • Apply evenly on face and neck
  • Let stand for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water
  • Use this mask once or twice a week

4. Overcoming acne

The catechins in green tea act as antibacterial agents that help fight acne-causing bacteria. Catechins even help regulate hormonal imbalances in the body, which is one of the main causes of acne breakouts. In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties of green tea help reduce the redness and inflammation caused by acne.

A 2012 study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology concluded that epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) - a component in green tea, helps treat acne by inhibiting the development of acne-causing bacteria.

How to use it:
  • Take the tea dregs and mix it with a little water until it looks like a mask
  • Apply evenly on the face with acne
  • Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water

Tea dregs can help clear clogged dirt, shrink pores, and even help keep your skin hydrated.

  • Brew green tea using warm water, then let it cool
  • Add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice
  • Place the tea liquid in a clean spray bottle
  • Spray the solution on your face or dab it with a cotton ball twice a day
  • You can use this toner in a cold state after leaving it in the refrigerator

Green tea dregs can even promote new hair growth due to hair loss and prevent common hair problems like dry scalp and dandruff.
