Garlic can reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension

The content of a compound (allicin) contained in garlic is believed to reduce hypertension. Allicin will be obtained in top condition and quantity if garlic is consumed raw - either fresh or dried.

However, allicin is an unstable component of the compound. So, it is very easy to damage if exposed to heating when cooking. According to a study published on BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, the higher the blood pressure, the greater the decrease produced by consuming garlic.

In line with the study, several other studies also found positive results. The more and the longer garlic is consumed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs.

A study published in the Pakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences provides 300, 600, 900, 1200, and 1500 milligrams of garlic per day to respondents of the study. Large decrease in blood pressure occurs based on the size of the amount of garlic consumed.

However, most journals recommend that hypertension sufferers consume 600-900 milligrams of garlic a day to reduce high blood pressure.

Apart from its benefits, so far no serious side effects have been found from the consumption of garlic with the aim of lowering blood pressure. The effects that usually arise are indigestion (bloating, frequent bowel movements, nausea, diarrhea), and allergic reactions for those who are sensitive to garlic.

How to use garlic to treat hypertension

For people with high blood pressure or hypertension, you can process garlic in various ways.You can steam the peeled garlic. Then consume one clove for two meals a day.In addition, you can boil it for five minutes then consume it with other food.

If you get bored, you can make garlic juice once a day. Make a juice consisting of two cloves of garlic, a few celery leaves, and add water

Then, you can also consume garlic by brewing. Before brewing using hot water, you need to finely crush the garlic first. Drink warm garlic brew water before going to bed.
